Ray Melvin from Palm Beach Jiu Jitsu will be fighting Donny Bush from American Top Team of the Treasure Coast on September 8th at “Rise of a Warrior 8,” which happens to be a much anticipated fight. Bush defeated Melvin’s teammate Jose Cortes at “Rise of a Warrior 7″ by submission and Melvin was not pleased with Bush’s arrogant style and now they will have a chance to fight.
KT: Bush went against your teammate, Jose Cortes, at Rise of a Warrior 7; what were your thoughts on that fight?
RM: I was more upset that our game plan wasn’t followed through and I was upset with the comments that he [Donny Bush] made in the interview after saying how great of a performance he felt he put on.
KT: How was Bush’s performance in that fight?
RM: Well, he did enough to win the fight but truthfully he’s a wild and crazy striker and his take downs are okay. I wasn’t a big fan of his comments and the way he came off in the interview and he’s sitting on a pretty high horse for someone that’s so inexperienced in MMA and he had a lot of holes in his game. His defense was wild and it wasn’t as impressive as he thought.
KT: I’m sure you heard about Bush blowing a kiss and pushing Cortes during their stare down at the weigh in?
RM: I’m not a fan of that neither, because it’s a fight and where all trying to reach that next level and make a professional career and if that’s not your goal than you’re in the sport for the wrong reasons. I believe bringing respect and honor to the game is needed and it’s Mix Martial Arts and I believe the thing fighters are missing is the respect of your opponent and respect yourself you’re suppose to have honor and dignity.
KT: This fight got started with a war of words with you and Bush on facebook, what was your intentions?
RM: It all goes back to the arrogant and the comments he made and there were some comments I made that probably shouldn’t have been posted, but the truth hurts. I’ll fight anybody, I do this for the love and nothing more than that and it’s not a game to me. I don’t have much to say about this, because enough was said on facebook and it’s time for action and talk is cheap.
KT: Bush feels he’s just having fun and it’s for the love of the game, what are your thoughts?
RM: I hope he brings that attitude in the cage against me; it’s fun but it’s more than a game to me. I’m going to have a good time with it, but at the end of the day I’m dead serious about winning this fight. I’m a two time golden glove champion and a tri-state kick-boxing champion for three consecutive years.
Melvin feels his experience will get him the victory over Bush. He wasn’t impressed with Bush’s  fight against Cortes and he wants to showcase his skills against him. Melvin feels he has a big advantage in striking and would like to keep this fight standing.
